CITY PARKS HOSTS DAY OF FAMILY FUN


New “FAMILY FRIENDZY” promises to be day of family fun in Clinton Square


Syracuse, NY- The City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Programs together with Citadel Communications, P&C, Time-Warner and Family Times will present “FAMILY FRIENDZY,” a day of family fun on Saturday, August 1, 2009 beginning 10:00 a.m. in Clinton Square. 

Live entertainment includes local dancers and teen singer Justin Bieber performing his single “One Time” and other entertainers including: step and drill teams; Vietnamese dancers; Media Unit’s “Angels with Broken Wings – The Loss,” a 21st century “West Side Story”; the Butler-Sheehan Academy of Irish Dance; the Young and Talented Dance Company; the Odessa Ukrainian Dancers; and the Stan Colella All-Star Band.

Local celebrities will read in the M & T Bank Storybook Corner, including: WSTM anchor Laura Hand at 10:30 a.m.; 9WSYR anchor Christie Casciano at 11:30 a.m.; Rita Paniagua, Executive Director of the Spanish Action League at 12:30 p.m.; community activist Mary Nelson at 1:30 p.m. and 93Q’s Ted and Amy at 2:30 p.m. 


Children can enjoy arcade games; moon bounce and jousting inflatables; a Sports Zone; a Safety Zone, sponsored by East Syracuse Chevrolet, with members of the Syracuse Police and Fire Departments; the Tumblebus from 2:30 p.m. –4:30 p.m.; visits by Chuckie from Rugrats and a local historical character from the Onondaga Historical Association; and Erie Canal tales and songs  with historical re-enactor Sarah Irene McGee, played by Diane Bostick during the afternoon.


There will also be a variety of hands-on activities including hand sculpting, games presented by the YMCA and OCRRA,  t-shirt purse making sponsored by Housing Visions and painting with the staff from the Everson Museum from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Take your painting home or leave it with the Everson to display.  Join with an educator from Baltimore Woods Nature Center to search for the animals that live in a pond.  Visit the Mandala display, featuring colorful kaleidoscope-like artwork created by children during ArtsWeek. 


Parents will also have the chance to get some rest in the “Parents Relaxation Zone” located on the patio outside the Clinton Square Atrium.  Services to be offered include manicures and massages.


Admission is free; a nominal fee for some activities and refreshments.
